Chapter illustrations for The Ocean Speaks book
A global ocean storytelling project
In early 2024, I had the chance to collaborate with White Lion Publishing and the team at Ocean Culture Life on their book The Ocean Speaks. The book brings together over 45 contributors, from divers and photojournalists to marine biologists and local conservationists, all working to protect and document the ocean in their own way.
I was asked to create chapter illustrations that help guide readers through each region of the ocean, adding a calm, visual rhythm to the book.
The creative process
Each chapter illustration started with a rough pencil sketch to explore layout and tone. I worked closely with the team to make sure the visuals complemented the stories and added a sense of flow between regions.
The result
My illustrations brought coherence to the visual identity of this book and helped artistically represent the diverse stories within. Working on this book gave me a small part in a much bigger story: one that’s all about connection, care, and protecting what matters. I’m proud to have contributed to a project that brings attention to the ocean in such a thoughtful way, showing the readers that art has an important place in translating how we care about our oceans.
