YANAA stands for You Are Not An Astronaut. It acts as a reminder that athletes deserve real food, not powders or lab-made gels. It's organic, local ingredients cooked by a chef to help people perform and actually enjoy what they’re eating.


They approached me with a strong story and concept, but needed illustration to bring it to life: something bold and playful, yet still premium enough to stand out in sports nutrition.

Designing packaging that looks as good as it tastes

Food in a pouch can be tricky. It can either look premium and powerful, or it can look like baby food. The packaging illustrations for YANAA had to grab the attention of sporty, health-conscious people, feel bold and dynamic, and still keep YANAA’s playful spirit intact. 


And with thousands of pouches going into production, we couldn’t afford to get it wrong.

The turning point came after testing different styles and colors through rounds of prototypes. Seeing the illustrations mocked up on real packaging and getting feedback from actual athletes helped us know when we finally hit the right spot. 


Once the packaging was locked in, I extended the style into icons, a collage, website illustration library, and simple motion assets, making sure the brand felt cohesive wherever it showed up.

The creative process

We went through a lot of sketches that didn’t make the cut. Some looked too soft. Some didn’t feel athletic enough. A few had the right energy but missed the balance of playful and premium. It was a process of trying, stepping back, and trying again.

The power of illustration in branding

The response was immediate and enthusiastic. The YANAA team loved how the illustrations captured their vision, and early customers praised both the packaging and the website artwork. The visuals helped the brand stand out and made people curious to try something new.

When creating the Yanaa brand, we wanted to share our values of care, craft, and fun. Stefán understood it perfectly, and created illustrations that embodied everything we cared about. We’d never collaborated with an artist before, so working with Stefán was a completely new experience for us. It could not have gone better. No idea was too mad, no detail was too annoying. It was an absolute joy to work with Stefán from start to finish.

Personal note:

I don’t usually work in packaging, but Anouck's and Chris' great energy and important mission to shift toward healthier, more responsible food culture made it an easy yes for me!
